I have found a 1994 ext cab v6 5-speed toyota w/ 165,000 for 3500 and my question is how good is the 3.0 v6 in it? I know the 22r's are legendary but how are the 3.0's i really want this truck, i just wanna know if it will hold up.

err sometimes you get one that goes 250k w/.out a problem, then there are others that blow head gaskets every 30k miles

Call a dealer w/ the VIN number, find out if the head gaskets have been replaced under the factory recall. That is the only chronic problem I know of w/ teh 3.0, besides an overwhelming lack of aftermarket upgrades etc.

3.0's often arent very happy after a flop onto the side... something about the oiling, but ive heard of people losing a motor after flops

So you dont think its worth getting? Im not gonna be rock crawling with it, just taking it hunting and fishing and back and fourth to work. I still have my z71 so i should be ok. This a 1994 with that many miles, would the recall still matter?

Yo,
Head gaskets tend to blow around that mileage. I would definitely check with a dealer to see if the head gasket recall has been done...understand time is running out for Toyota to fix the problem...

Also, buy a test kit at Auto Zone or Advance Auto and see if there is any antifreeze in the oil. That will definitely give you serious barganing space with the seller. Pulling 3.0 heads is a real bitch.....done quite a few.

I got a 94 4runner with 190k miles and the 3.slow The motor will run fast if you shift long which tends to kill the gas, but i have a lead foot so that explains that. I realy do like it thou.

If it's been well maintained, go for it. They're not really powerfull, but are a very good truck. Heck, if the engine does let go put in a 3.4 tacoma motor.

The 3.4 is a semi hard swap, not too much different than putting a small block in it. Those 3.slows IMHO suck donkey balls. Low power, break shit, tight engine bay, did I mention they break shit? Doing the 3.4 swap would be the best thing you ever did for one. Or swap in a 3.8 supercharged GM.

Thanks to all you guys info i did not buy it. When i went back and did some research. I checked the oil and it was milky, i pointed it out to them and they had no clue. They have just got it in on a trade. It was a friend of mine who sells used cars. He went ahead and took it to the auction. So thanks so much guys, you have been very helpful. Someone help me out tho, i need a 1988 to 1995 4x4 yota preferably with the 22r in it. Someone sell me one

Here's a question along this topic.
Which do oyu guys think is better - getting one that HAS had the headgaskets repaired/recaleld already, or one that has not and their blown (but it qualifies)?

It seems to me, you could get a quite a deal w/ Option 2. Buy it cheap, and get it fixed by dealer free, and while its apart go ahead and redo heads etc. Saves you from having to do the work yourself.

Option 2 is not long to be around. Toyota is getting rid of the recall sometime in the near future. I guess they figure if it hasn't blown by this time, it isn't going to. Also note that some of the early 3.4's were also affected by this recall. But to answer your ? go for option 2 and have them do the timing belt stuff too.
