Hello everyone,
My name is Sam, I live in Sylva, NC but am attending school at Wyotech in Blairsville, PA. I've been into wheeling for years, just never been able to find a decent 4x4 within my budget. I'm 18 and have a 1 1/2 year old daughter that I would love to take wheeling when I can afford a rig and when she gets old enough.

Welcome Sam! So you make it back to NC any? Have a rig in mind when you are ready to build? How is Wyotech goin? I was thinking of checking that out.

I'm in NC on break right now. Going back early Jan. I've been searching all over for a 79-85 Toyota 4x4 pickup. As we all know those trucks are sold the instant they go up for sale.

Wyotech is alright. Had I looked into it more I wouldn't be going there. If you go, don't go to the PA campus, there is nothing there.

they are out there but hard to find trucks

looked in to going there and nashville auto diesel collage but its like 30k a yr and only get a diploma after 9-14months ??

chose CVCC and everything is covered my student grants also in 2yrs ill get a associates degree in auto sciences u might wanna look in to it or there is a auto in VA beach that my buddy went to thats close and he likes it

For the base 9 month program you get an associates degree from Wyotech.

I've searched craigslist high and low and everytime I find a "Hilux" it's gone by the time I scrounge up the money.

Well I hope I don't get in trouble for this.

Seeing as I'm not sponsored yet I'm just going to post it here.

I am looking for a 1979-1985 Toyota 4x4 pickup. I only have $1500 and hopefully I can find a decent one.

PM Me.

Thanks,
Sam

Post a wanted add. Even though 86-89 is IFS they do really good for what they are. They are EFI and I think that's more inportant than solid axle for mild wheeling. If you get an older one with solid axle you can convert to propane cheap though.

I was also considering most stuff up to 89. I would prefer a solid axle though just because that's how I am, haha.

The forum won't let me post anywhere but this section.

Which brings me to even more unnecessary questions in this thread....
I'm going to look at a 1980 later this week. I'm wondering what things you guys really recommend checking for on the 79-83 trucks? I know to check for usual rot but this truck is from farther south. What common major issues (if any), should I check for?

Any help is greatly appreciated and I apologize if I'm bothering anyone with posting this here.
