New Lines Cleared At Callalantee

Went up to Callalantee and did trail work Thursday and Friday before heading to Harlan for the KYMC workday. Thursday I cleared the top part of Easy Out to allow access to the left side of the ledge. Easy Out seems to have a real nice base slab of rock that runs from about half way up the section to the top, maybe further. Should provide a nice "slickrock" kind of section after it erodes a bit. Friday I did some work on the rock garden, "Top Of The World" (TOW), off of the red/yellow trail. I cleared a new line around on the left flank of the rock and cleared most everything off the immediate top. The right side of TOW is eroding nicely and I had a bit of a problem making it up Sunday when I went back to ride. The middle, World Wall, is getting just about impossible. I did manage to widen the access some so there are several different Wall lines but it's a pretty imposing step. I heard that kc4x4 made it most of the way up the left line of World Wall Saturday but suffered a rear steer malfunction that prevented him from making it all the way to the top. He did come back down the new line of TOW but to date no one has really attempted it to my knowledge, with everyone passing on it both Saturday and Sunday. Didn't get pics of it but it's a loose, rocky climb with a medium step at the top. Can't wait to get back up there and give it a go and do some more World clearing :) Here's before and after pics of Easy Out.

Really appreciate your hard work. Looks good. Every time I'm up there I'm thinking of and looking for new places to clear.

your always workin hard john! did you happen to snap any pics of TOW? awsome work in harlan as well, you did a lot of trail work and traveling over the weekend.
great work!

Thats right Pump is toasted!

Chip has Pic's

I did try left line on easyout. Ledge is really under cut and I didn't try hard enough to get it. It will not take long for it to erode. I knocked a couple chunks off it.

Thanks John for clearing. KC

Where is TOW? Can you put in on a map? Are there coordinates to be matched to the map?

Helluva job John!!! It felt like just yesterday we were talking about doing that and now its done. Looks to be pretty nasty did you get a chance to run the left side after you cleared it?

Good job on all the work John. Thats real dedication. I felt kinda bad when he was still working and most of us were trying out the new stuff.

Is there any way to blow up that map of Mtn. City? Looks more quality than most of the others.

Ok, so is TOW on the back side of the older rock garden that goes has a left turn in it, then once out of the garden it turns hard right and then is a steep right back down to the main trail? Looks like you have shown it as a short 'black' trail. If so, bummer, since we were right there and didnt notice. I did see lots of places throughout the area that would be fun to take a big Stihl to.

Another thought. With a good map like this, it would great if just the intersections were numbered as in your latest map. Dont really need colors as long as you have a map, a compass and intersections labeled. Thats why I was wanting nav points. At night I get really turned around up there.

Yep, that's the spot. Where you're talking about going up is where I mentioned having to work it in the OP. World Wall is to the left of that, has been open a little more than a year I guess, the new line is around the left flank from there. Also would be nice if the intersections were numbered as they were at one time! Got some extra time? :)

Is this World Wall?.... if so I had nothing for it... Trying the Left side wanted to roll me down the hill... and well maybe another 100hp and some 40's would help..

But, the Right side of TOW was pretty fun and is a nice run you can hit a couple times back to back..

Yep, that's the Wall. Stumps are gone now :) You would be looking at the front of the vehicle and the rig would be further to the right if the rig was coming up the new line I cleared.

Guess that's why kc4x4 made it almost all the way up Saturday, HP + 49"s :)

How I have I not seen that?????
John, I would love to meet up and make some sign markers. That is the #1 complaint of the area = crappy directions. The maps would be great if you knew where you were. Looks like the 6" diamonds that URE uses to mark boundaries would be perfect. Just shear them, number them - possibly paint the background and go hammer'm up. I would think that we could get our hands on some scrap AL or SS at work if I looked long enough. I may be missing something, but it looks easy enough to do as long as the timber folk dont mess them up.

good work John. you had a busy weekend! Looking forward toi coming to check it out soon.

Yes, that was my original thought. Then paint with military style block letters on site.
