I am a new member (sorry not hot, brunette, and way over age). I originally found the Carolina Trail Blazers via a sticker on the jerri can and stories from the previous owner of my 71 CJ5. Maybe some of the old timers will recognize Harold in the picture he was a member in the mid 70's. Since 1979 the CJ (my wife named it precious) has sat. It is running now but still working through some minor issues including seats, tires and exhaust. Hope to get stuck in the creek soon; like old times.
Frank

Dude!
As good as she looks, we are gonna have to do something about those wheels! LOL
Looks good, what are it's specs?

come on guys, you dont like them chrome smoothies?

Another HKY guy. Coming out of the woodwork here lately. Welcome!

Leave that thing AS-IS including the caps. With scrap going up, there will be precious few original classics out there. It aint worth cutting up.

By the time your 60 is in, there will be thousands of us...:flipoff2:

Nice looking CJ. Let us know if you need some assistance or advice. There are quite a few around here with either knowledge, time, or both.

Stock is the new modified

Plans are to leave it stock, but a set of wheels with comfortable but wider tires to do some sunday trails with would be nice.
Powered with Buick 225, 4 speed T18, Dana 18 (I think), dana 44 rear, 27 front. Some of this is still in question and seeking insight.
The transfer case has the emergency brake on the output as a drum like earlier transfer case but appears to be dana 18. How can I tell. It had been sitting since 79 and a yard ornament for at least the last 7 years. New brake system, fuel system with tank and alot of corrosion cleaned off of electrical connections and it all works, even turn signals. And as of today the horn even honks. Took it down the road yesterday for fuel and trust me need tires for any kind of safe transport.

The sure fire way to see if it is a Dana 18 Tcase is go under the jeep and if the rear driveshaft is behind the front and the rear axle is not centered, then you have a Dana 18. If the rear axle is centered and the driveshaft is inline with the Transmission, and NOT the front driveshaft then it is a Dana 20.

Must be Dana 18

According to Dan's simple description it is indeed a T18.
Thanks,
Next I would like to figure gear ratios at differentials, owner told me it came with higher ratio differentials and a granny low 4 speed.
