Do you want new trails to ride at Uwharrie? The FS has applied for funds to make new trails at Uwharrie. The catch is, they have to come up with matching funds for the money they receive.

The matching funds can come in the form of monetary donations, grants, etc or can come from volunteer time, labor and tools donated to the forest.

The FS is having a workday this Saturday, May 22nd starting at 9 a.m. If you are in the forest at this time and do not stop by for the workday, then I have to conclude that you are a selfish SOB and don't care about Uwharrie or getting new trails there!

All that is required of you is that you stop by the Hunt Camp parking lot between 8:45-9:15, sign the FS workday sheet that the Ranger will have available and go ride the trails (picking up some trash as you go).

And the excuse used by many that they were in the forest and picked up trash on the workday doesn't work. Unless you sign the Ranger sheet, your work is only doing a small part of what it could be doing! Every workday I stand in the parking lot watching as rig after rig rides right by on the way to the trails, some even give us a wave, but very few are doing their part!

As a perk, you can also get a free trail pass for the day, free camping for the night and a free hotdog from YHDG!

We HAVE to step up as a group and show the Forest Service the numbers of people that use the OHV area at Uwharrie or we are going to be starting a Rescue Uwharrie effort just like we had to do for Tellico!

We need a big, nice, eyecatching sign at the Outpost,Mt Market, and at the huntcamp, that says what you just said.

I'm not afraid to go around telling folks about it either.

Thanks for posting JC!

Do you have a link to send donations?

See you Saturday morning JC!

Do all these rigs know what you are doing standing there in the parking lot?

Like Dylan Said, Signs might back several more of those people in to help out. just because there's people standing in a parking lot doesn't mean I'm gonna stop and ask why.

If you are advertising with signs, then my point is irrelevant.

JC I know this has been covered but can you also cover the specifics about bringing tools or chain saws (even if your not certified).

My understanding is you also get credit towards your drive time to/from the NF, as well if you bring qualifying equipment. Can you verify this JC?

Possibly there can be some coordination of folks for carpooling/ride sharing.

I don't have a rig currently and I'd need a ride on the trails, or possibly do some work that is easily accessible from a parking area or road pull off. Possibly save the parking lot or camping area trash pickup for people like me ?

Also while many clubs have adopted and have committed to do focused work on specific trails, anyone or any group/club can show up and help at these work days. In the past ATV groups have also helped out. Anyone have contacts with any of these local groups to make sure they are in the loop and help out ?

I'm wondering if we placed some vocal/talkative people at the couple gas stations nearby we could help recruit these folks that may not be aware of the work day efforts BEFORE they make their way to the trails.

Lastly, can we get this info cross posted on other sites in their regional, land use and events sections?

JC I'll be there Sunday and always pick up. Perhaps someone can sign me up on Saturday for my work on Sunday?

Also, where do you send monetary/tool donations to?

oh man... more trails would be awesome... like jeff b said... is there anyway to show support by not actually showing up? ill be camping on carolina beach and wont be able to make it out there :(

So hey Chris sign me up to man!lol!I got free tickets for the race this weekend and havent been to one in years, that being said JC when was this brought up about new trails??

Your saying its seriously being talked about or what?

Hope you guys have a great show up out there,I could have made it if it was on sunday but cant this time!

NC4x4 will be on-site, providing free gloves and trash bags for anyone who is volunteering.

Look for the White 'candy' van.

Wait... look out for a guy in a while van with gloves?
Are they latex and come with a big grin?

Sounds like trouble to me.

JC - or whoever - where can "matching funds" be sent to?
For those of us who cannot donate labor but might have some spare change.

Cant make it out this week, Rob and I will be on a recon Harlan mission with the KYMC, but glad to hear about this!

When I posted my comments to the FS response period I mentioned that I thought they should consider a rate hike just to cover operating expenses and possible expansion efforts.

I mean really with all you pay to ride for a weekend would $5 more make a difference?

Maybe setup something at the outpost that when you buy your trail pass, you can also donate a dollar or $5 towards the effort.

I am sure if most of us look at what we have spent on wheeling and wheeling activities this year, even a $20 donation would be a drop in the bucket.

you know,I've never bought into the season pass thing for UNF.I've allways figured that if 5 dollars a day was gonna break my bank,I need to stay home and get a cheaper hobby. I like the idea of a "tip jar" at the outpost and the other places that sale the day passes.

I wonder how hard it would be to increase the daily fee to say 7.50 a day with the 2.50 earmarked to matching funds.I know it might be an accountant's nightmare to keep up with the funds but I am sitting here wondering...

For that matter if the season pass was $10 more that would raise a lot of money too. I buy the season pass but I usually can only make it out three or four times a year and I would pay a bit more to help the fund. My season pass is 433 and I know they are still selling them so at a $10 add to the price you can see how fast that would add up.

My wife will be coming to the work day also. I challenge all you guys to bring your wives or girlfriends to help out.

I won't have a rig to wheel, can we line up someone with a pickup truck who can help cart people around. I'm as guilty as the next of not going cause my rig is down, but I'd like to make that excuse a thing of the past for everyone by making sure there is always open seats or truck bed to ride into the work areas.
