I installed a nv3550 5 speed overdrive in my CJ-7, behind my 304, about 4 months ago

All Jeep motors whether its a 4.0, 4.2, or V-8's use the same starter

everything was good for a while until now, over the past 4 months starting the Jeep has gotten tougher and louder, now it wont even start

I pulled the starter off and drive gear teeth are starting to get chewed up

I was told with this type of starter, that you could not shim it

Why did this happen?, and what do I do about it:shaking:

I dont want to buy a new starter, and it be chewed up or mess up my flywheel

Was Flywheel/FLexplate replaced with tranny?

On another note
I have had horrific trouble with Advance and Auto Zone starters.

I went ~10 in a 5 month time (all checked adjusted and shimmed properly)
Fianlly asked for my money back after being late to work 1 too many times bought a new one from Chevy, installed same as rest and was still fine when I sold truck 2 years later...

yeah when I swapped tranny's, I had the flywheel surfaced and the ring gear checked out very good

it turned out being a bad bendix in the starter, I would say the starter was a good one, that lasted oh, almost 30 years, it looked like the original
