*This is on my wife's car, but given 7 deg temp it's high priority so I'll take help wherever I can get it*

'07 Toyota Matrix. Unf out of warranty due to mileage.

Wife calls this AM "Honey, my car has no heat." Also, engine temp is really high.

I'm thinking - thermostat stuck closed? Maybe frozen overnight?
Would it be logical that the stat beging closed, no "newly warmed" water reaches the heater core, it never warms up, meanwhile block toasts quickly?

Had it happen to me on an old Chevy before. It was like 3* for the high. I took the Radiator out, took in the house and let it sit in the tub till it thawed out. Cranked the truck for a few mins and turn it off. Finally it thawed out, I put the radiator back in and filled with anti freeze. was good to go.

i hate to be the bearer of bad news.......but i had the same prob on a ford mini van. it would have no heat and over heat at the same time. turned out to be a blown head gasket. put in new head gaskets(in the driveway) and did not have any more problems.

 damn Chip! you pulled the radiator. I turned the engine off and let the built up heat melt the ice. fired it back up and kept going.

had 1 do the same thing, the therm. froze closed. didnt catch it quick enough. blowed the head gasket. hope yours didnt get that hot

Did you have her check the overflow bottle or rad to see if there was any coolant left? That could mostly rule out the head gasket theory...
