I went to lunch and lost all of my Oil pressure. I have a little pressure when it starts up but then it drop to 0. Does any one have any suggestions? There is oil in the engine.

no noise, It has a electronic gauge. also I get some pressure when I start it up then it drops to 0
I does need a oil change and the oil is thin but I should not make that much difference

Mopars have a common problem of the sending unit getting clogged up by even the smallest amount of trash, I would bet your sending unit is the culprit. Real esy to get to and change, right by the oil filter housing

for piece of mind I would reccomend a mechanical gauge though. as the stock gauges are anything but accurate in the first place.

:stupid:

If there aren't any bad noises going on, I'm betting your pressure is fine.

Hey,

just curious, does the oil pressure sending unit do anything other than control the oil pressure guage? my current OPSU goes crazy sometimes. it will spike off the chart, and then drop back down to normal, very sparatic. i can unplug, and then replug in the sensor and it may help for a little while, but then it'll do it again. btw: i've got a '96 XJ 4.0L also.

OK problem solved. :D

I took the old sensor off at work in the parking lot and there was alot of oil inside the plug on the sensor. It must have be leaking throught the inside of the sensor. Advanced auto had a new one for $27. put it in and now I have lots of oil pressure 40 -60 psi.

Before the sensor complety crapped out my oil pressure was 25- 45 psi. I knew it should have been a little higher but I had figured with 162k it might have some wear in the bearings, but I guess not. :)

Hey,

yea, my first OPSU died the same way. it was leaking oil. i just crossed 141K miles, and generally have 40-60 psi. but every so often it freaks out and goes to 80psi or higher. odd.

glad you got it fixed though.
