84 XJ, 2.5L Put a different carb on it yesterday. It started, but need adjusted. Went back this evening to adjust it and no fire??Nothing out of the coil. With key on I have 12volts to the coil. While cranking I have 12v at the coil. I changed the coil and same thing. Real head scratcher:confused: any suggestions?

My buddy Cory had the same problem. Bad thing is it happend at URE at the Christmas ride. Anyhow we checked everything and after we got it back home he replaced the distributor and it fired right up.

steve you say you have 12v at the coil, but the pickup sends the ground to the coil, i would say a bad pickup or whatever sends the negative signal to the coil from the distributor.

I will have to trace the wires down. There is a black wire coming off the distributor into the wire loom that goes into the firewall and then makes its way back to the coil.

The positive wire to the coil also goes through a resistor wich seems to be good as well. I will do some more trouble shooting this evening. Thanks guys!

Well after doing some wire tracing and looking around, it turned out to be the voltage/spark box thing on the fender. I had another one on the shelf and figured I would throw it on as i was at a dead end. Hit the key and started!I guess after 27 years, anything can just quit.
