Anybody know what happens if you change wheels w/o TPMS sensors in them?
I assume the light will just come on - but is there a way to reset it?
The low-tech solution is a piece of tape over the light

if you're changing the wheels why don't you just have the tpms sensors put in the new ones? they go in like normal valve stems...

No way to eliminate the light (without tape) if they're not there. Will it currently tell you which tire is low or just that there is a low tire? If it'll tell you which tire is low, putting them in the spare won't work.

The current tires are still good, unlikely they'll be broken down off the rims, e.g. when swapped, no sensors.
I guess what I'm wondering is, is there a way to actaully turn the system off.

Don't they work off of radio frequency? That is how the light get signal no?... So if you put them in a spare tire and inflate the tire to normal psi the light problem is solved. I just had a buddy of mine have the same issue and it was fixed. It will allow you to air down as well.

OK so one way I've read to do this is to make a "TPMS pipe b0mb".

E.g. PVC tube w/ schrader threaded in, drop some sensors in there, cap, pressurize it, just keep that in the back.

Although, it looks liek getting new sensors to put in there requires programming etc, hum.

The readout for my sensors on my work van show up as LF, RF, LR, RR tire is low.....or something like that. I push the button and it goes back to odo readout. No light

I made the TPMS bomb on my truck. I store it under the rear passenger seat. I left the spare TPS in so that I could be lazy and not check it, and I didn't like the idea of 4 monitors slapping around if I ever had to use my spare. Depending on the wheels you have/had will make the difference as to whether or not you can use them in the new wheels. Steel wheels take different sensors than aluminum.

On TTORA, there was a member who found the wiring diagram to disable the monitoring system, but it involved some digging behind the dash to find it. However, that was on a Tacoma, but I can't imagine there's too much difference between it and the FJ.
