Metto - you may be able to help me out on this one. I have been looking for an NP 205 for awhile now - I found a 10 spline input for a reasonable deal, but I really don't want to run an SM465 if I don't have to. Would the conversion of main input shaft on the transfer case to 27 be worth it, or would I have better luck trying to fabricate a slave cylinder set up for the SM465. Thanks for the help guys. This is going to be in a buggy, it isn't in the truck anymore just to let everyone know where I am headed with this.

if your going to convert it, go ahead and do a 32spl conversion (TH400 and later SM465s). then it will be ready for a doubler if you decide to go that way or you can run a th400, sm465 (32spl) or 4l80e. personally i wouldnt run a manual unless you have a lot of gear reduction i.e. doubler or something like 6.17 axle gears. the 465 does have a deep first though. just my 2 cents

Hey Metto,
Have you ever heard of anyone putting a slave cylinder on an SM465 bell housing? This is going to be used in a buggy, so I would have to run a master cylinder/slave cylinder set up. How do you like your TH350/NP205 set up? Have you had any problems out of it at all? I am geared 6.72 and will run 53's just to give you an idea of my project. Let me know what you think.

i just finished my 205 swap (i had a 203 before), so no trail experience till saturday. it seems to crawl fine around where i have used it, and with 6.72's (im assuming rockwells), you wont mind the 1.96:1 low range of the 205. i havent dealt with manuals at all, so i cant tell you anything about running a master/slave setup. look over on CK5.com, im sure its been discussed over there. oh and if your running rocks and probably michelin 53's, you should go for a TH400 should you choose and auto. a 400 is a lot stronger than a th350 and about the same price

My slave cylinder with my 465 was mounted to the frame rail, located approx. next to the oil filter.

The 205 front output with a early 465 will have a 10-spline coarse output.. depending on your setup, that may become your weak link, though with 53's, I think it'll be your axle shafts.

Well I am going to run Rockwell's with 53's. I am thinking since they are geared 6.72 then I should be okay. I know people that run them with toyota 4 cyl. and trannies and transfer cases. That is why I am thinking they should hold up pretty good. I will be running a 305 on propane as well - I am not going to build the engine extreme or anything, but this is my thoughts. What do you think about that?

Metto,

I am not having too much luck with the TH400 at all especially getting the 32 spline input without changing the shaft - I can find TH400's mated to a NP208 with no problem, but as well all do - I prefer a NP205.

A toyota 22RE through a dual case (with 4.7's in one case) box can put ~5,000lb ft into an axle... a V8 through your setup would have to make 390lb-ft to do the same. Food for thought.

That said, my personal opinion is that the tires are too big for the axles if locked. On the other hand, they may hold up for your whole life, or you may snap axle shafts the first time you smack the t-case into low range.

Just my $.02, which is all it's worth.

Yeah, if you double them, I have talked to a guy on another forum that doesn't have them doubled and it does fine. I really don't want to run a doubler at this point. The 53's are just an option right now. In the beginning I was going to run either 39's or 40's, but I just came across a deal on the 53's that is my thinking. If you guys don't think it will work then I understand - That is the reason for the post.

you can get XML's in smaller sizes for pretty cheap. look on the stazworks site for more info.

about 3 or 4 months. it was full time and the part time kit cost as much as my 205 swap did, so i just got rid of it. its still in my driveway if i choose to do a doubler later on

So the dude at URE with the cab truck who runs Rocks and 49's aired to 5psi and says he is more worried about snapping the tcase (205) coupler than a shaft. He is running the same setup Ryan is talking about. I think he runns a doubler now? Ask one of the guys from the MD's he helped them at the DP.

He has broke an axle once I think but that was a while back.

If you break an 2 1/2 ton upgrade to 5 tons :D

I am trying to remember this conversation with him that was early last year :)
