np 435 question

I have got an np435 4x4 tranny that i got at a junkyard. the shifter is missing. I found out that they had two different top covers when i bought a shifter out of another one and it will not work. I was wondering if the top covers are interchangeable so that i could just swap the tops if I find another one. The one I have is the shorter one. Any info would be appreciated.

It probably varies by application. The 435 was offered in all kinds of stuff -- do you know what your junkyard transmission was from?

It is a ford tranny. I took it out of a 76 f100 4x4 but it was retrofitted with a 351 w. It is a ford though. I just want to know if i can change the different top covers between the ford trannies.
