NP231 pump help

I am installing a SYE in my Np 231 and found some issues when I opened up the case. It is really low on oil and I need a new mode shift fork. The plastic pump screen is degraded and falling apart. How can I test the internal pump to make sure it still works?

you can't test the pump easily, i would just replace it because your already in there. The pump isn't that expensive

just hold the outside of the pump and spin the splined inside radius of the pump, if the pump is good you will hear it sucking from the pickup, or drop the pickup in a bucket of oil and see if it goo.
