I want to get an OBD 1 Scanner for my Jeep. I have a TBI 4.3 in it and deciphering the morse code blinks on the little red light is a PITA. I see a plug in for them but it's basically a $32 paper clip. Is there a scanner that will attach and give and actual readout?
Thanks

I've always wanted to get one of the old snap on MT2500 scanners. It doesn't do newer vehicle's, but the newest thing I own is 2000 model so it would do everything I need. They will also do obd 1. You can still find them pretty cheap on ebay.

Then only thing holding me back is I know absolutely nothing about them. I don't know what all is needed or how to operate it.

^^^ this! I have one and used it on the renix too. My xj is obd1 so when the Mj was giving us a fit it only made sence to give one a try.

For 13 years on the TBI-swapped 304 and Charles' TBI350... I've used WinALDL (*FREE*), an old laptop with a serial cable I made from zip cord (lamp wire) and some RadioShack bits.
Unfortunately, *that* laptop shat the bed, so purchased a USB cable ($50-60) for newer laptop (no serial port)...

Anyways, that software and the cable will tell you *EVERYTHING* there is to know about your TBI *AND* allow you see what happening real-time and/or log to file...
