off road stalling

I have a '95 jeep wrangler with a 4" rough country lift and 33' super swampers. As of now it is extreamly under powered with only a 4 cyclinder (at some point when i get the money or when it dies i will do an engine swap to a 6 cyclinder). But for now i am working with what i got, the problem came after a day of wheel'n. I went through this little local trail near where i live with no problem at all, the trail is maybe a mile long if that but it is extreamly rough and throughs you around, it also has some deep water. Well after the first time i was so impressed i went back through and noticed that the engine was wanting to stall out but only did so one time when i tryed a huge hill clime with not enough gas. So after i got out i made it home and cleaned it up. The next day my friend and i went out for one last run and this time it stalled out at almost every thing. I dont understand why it was stalling out, the only thing that came to mind was that maybe the sediment or little "stuff" that may have setteled on the bottom of the gas tank was stirred up and reduced the ability of the engine.
 
if it stalls in deep water dont re crank it. u prolly hrdrolocked it. pull the plugs and turn it over a few times to pump the water out. recranking it after it been hrdolocked can do all kinds of bad things, since water wont combust. and im sure u dont want to throw a rod or do seriuos internal engine damage
 
I am not up to par on the newer stuff, but if it was an older anything(cept oil runner) I would say your distributor has a case of H2O in it. When you go thru water and it hits the engine( does not have to be dizzy high) the steam will drift up towards your dizzy and creep inside. This robs the spark and it will not fire right. Dry it out, maybe even a hairdryer to get where you can't wipe. spray a lil WD-40 and see what happens.
 
i really have no input on the technical side of what is going on. i have ideas but they have been discussed. what i would like to say is this.

you may not be guilty of this. and i do not know you. and i am making an assumption here so if it does not apply please do not take it personaly. but when you were on a trail near your house, was it your property? did you have permission to be on it? if you did not please do not go back until you do. the chance of us wheelers as a population losing our places to play is very realistic as illegal wheeling is becoming very popular. i have been guilty of it until i was able to grasp the potential long term consiquences. you may have been on your own land, or have legal written permission and i do not know it. but before someone here jump all on you about it i wanted to let you know it is very frowned upon by the "real" 4wheeling population. i appoligize in advance if my assumtion is total off base.
 
To be clear i was on my friends land, so there is nothing to be frowned on. And i take no offense to your comment stone
