Well I have been lurking on here long enough. Time to show what Ive been working on. Cant afford to work on the truck so I have picked up a old miltary trailer to mess around with. Nothing special. Just needed somthing to be able to haul fire wood and serve as a camping trailer for weekends out in the woods.

redid the old farm style hitch and replaced with a extended pintle hitch. Also cut the rusted floor out and installed a 1/4 in steel floor. Sorry for the crappy pics they were taken with my buddy's crackberry and some liquid courage.

Next thing was to get the two five gallon jerry cans out of the bed and on the outside of the trailer. Went to northern tool today and picked up two jerry can mounts and bolted them to the front of the trailer.

I enjoy my M416 trailer I picked up in 2001.I used it as a companion for my M38 Nellie Belle and then when i got my Tj,it really shined .I just wish it had a tail gate.

Sorry for the hijack! Nice looking trailer.

kaiser thanks for the info. on the tail light converson. I have 12v regular lights in the stock housings. trying to keep the military look.

Well no progress so far this week. I did get to see how it will flex with the pintle on the rock pile at work.

your trailer has more flex than my jeep....that just aint right lol.....good looking project, i need one oj these so i can actually take stuff somewhere with the cj5

Is there any chance you could give me the dimensions of the inside of the bed? Also, do you know if that is a 3/4 or 1 1/2 ton trailer? I was going to get a slide in camper for my truck, but now Im leaning torward a 3/4 ton ammo trailer. Do you know if the 1 1/2" ton trailers are a lot heavier than the 3/4 ton ones? Does yours have a canvas top? Thanks!

@Nissan11,
question was 2 years ago, but it is neither 3/4 or 1 1/12. This is an M416 Bantam. They are a 1/4 ton trailer designed to be pulled by light duty vehicles, like Jeeps. Not HMMVV or 5/4 Trucks like the 3/4 or 1 1/2 trailers. You can easily find the dimensions online when you search the code M416.

By the way... This Beauty is all mine now! (Thank you @welderman!!) I will return with occasional pictures of the build progress towards a kick-a** expedition trailer!

Dad had a 1/4 ton trailer like that with a solid tailgate welded on it. When we were kids, we would fill it with ice and 6 packs and covered it with a heavy canvas tarp. Durring race weeks we would head to the campgrounds and infield at CMS. Sold cigs too. We made a lot of money selling to race fans! If we would have had some hoes we would have been millionaires at 16.

Lots of progress made, ill try my hand at uploading some pictures

So Whattaya think?! Still has lots to do in the future, but she's looking b-e-a-utiful to me! Next up is to take care of the rims and maybe get a lid made for it.

i like that it matches your jeep in color
Thanks! Wanted to go with automotive paint for an easy match, but would take a nice smooth surface to really look spot on. Plus the durability of spray was questionable. Wound up going with a Sherwin William's oil based brush on base enamel that they were able to colorize like a house paint. A few swatches and 3 people eyeballing led us to "Viking Yellow" to equal the Jeep's "Solar Yellow". A couple of coats and its tough as nails!
