I have a front D44 out of a wagoneer and i have found a rear J20 D44. the only problem is that the pumpkin is offset a few inches to the passenger side and my MJ is in the center. Has anybody ever done this before? i think it will be fine, but how about binding and driving down the road?

thanx

isnt the J20 rear wider than the front waggy(i guess it could be the widetrac front).... ifs so, i would just have the rear axle narrowed to match the front and have a set of alloy shafts made. Or narrow it to the correct with so that a stock set of replacement shafts will fit.

just ideas....

the pinion being off 2-4 inches should matter...happens every time you put a 8.8 in a TJ.

I run a scout II dana 44 in the rear of my MJ, it is off center by just a couple or 3 inches. Are your axles offset to the passenger side? i dont know much about the older jeep stuff.

It doesnt cause any problems, but since it is offset towards the driver side, the driveshaft comes pretty close to the gas tank skid, i actually think there may be come contact on sidehills, but havent got a chance to really find out.

i guess moral of the story is that if it were offset by much more than just a couple inches, it would suck........

if its a j-20 then that axle is a dana 60. the offset is about 6 inches. i dont think that it would be a problem and it will be wider because the wagoneer axle you have will be a narrowtrac and all j-20's were widetrack, but its not a j-20 axle if its a dana 44, unless its a j-2000 i think?

It will be fine if it's off set by only a few inches. Mine is that way too and it works great.

it might be a j-2000 then b/c i am pretty positive its a D44.(i thought the J-20's and J-2000 were the same truck....my bad) how much wider is the wide track than the narrow track?

if its 5 lug it maybe a semi float 60 im not sure if 2000 got them i know 3000 did. check the casting for some 60 stamped in the web

im not positive, but i think the WT axles are about 4-6" wider then the waggy or NT axles

it could be a WT cherokee rear D44, or from a quadratrac J2000 or J10

thanx for all the help

u-joints don't care what direction they go, as long as you stay within the range...
