Well I have now seen it all
I am a master tech and work for Meineke .
We had a customer come in for a weird noise in his engine
whaen I look at the maitence sticker the oil change was due
40,000 miles ago I thought they forgot to replace the sticker
When I asked him he said he has never chenged the oil since he has owned the truck . he bought it about 2 years ago so it was deff 40k over due and came out like water . I am suprised it still ran .When I pulle out a spark plug there was no electrode in it !! So we changed the sludge and did a tune up
when he left he called back and said heis truck has never ran so good
LOL I guess I will see him in about 30 k for another oil change

ya, when i worked at the GM dealership we had a guy run 15k between oil changes in a brand new trailblazer. he said he was going by what the manual said.

A buddy of mine had a Ford Tempo he literally abused and neglected.
He too went 40k+ miles once between changes.
Now granted he would at least check every now and again, and add some.
He finally broke down and changed it, said teh techs just laughed and laughed 'cause it was like sludge. After getting it all out, they refilled and ran it awhile, drained it again, comping him teh extra cost just b/c of the humor of it, he said teh second drianing was stil ldarker than a "normal" change.

When I worked at the ford dealer here, we had a lady bring an escort in with a rattle in the engine at 31000 miles. She got upset when we denied the engine warranty due to a lack of oil and no oilchanges. The car still had the factory filter (they are painted flay gray with no markings) on it. She said you dont have to change the oil ever, oil changes were a conspiracy from the oil companys. We told her regardless she should have checked it and topped it off at least.

BMW runs 15k on their oil changes and we really don't see any engine issues related to that. I had the General managers, brother or cousin (or something like that), come in at 66k for his second oil service. (The first was done at 15). He'd replaced the tires before changing the oil! And here's the kicker. the car has full maintenance on it. Just bring it in and it's free!

By the same tokin, I see them that some in every year for their annual oil change and it comes out looking just likethe new oil I put in it. Many cases they have 1-2k on them in a year! I sure wish I could do that with an expencive car!

I've seen one of the BMW's with the high oil change intervals. I think it's because the one I'm referring to held 10 quarts of synthetic.

A former co-worker bought a new ****NEW****** Nissan Quest. Never changed the oil, and it locked up @40k. $4000 later they understood what an oil change was.

I don't know of any that hold 10 qt's. The new V8 M3 hold 9 qts of 10 w60. To the tune of $9+ a qt!

since its already been brought up, whats the standard life time of an Oil Change using Royal Purple?

Im at 5000 miles since I did it last, but from what Ive heard you can go for up to 10k on synthetic?

No more that an oil change costs, why take a chance on ruining an engine by not doing it?? I run synthetic in the diesel and STILL change it every 3000 miles.

Every 7-8K here. That seems to be about the limit on my oil life meter in my Silverado.
The Charger gets them every 3-4K "free" from the dealer.
