Anyone on here running 2cycle engine oil or motor oil mixed in their fuel? If so then how much do you use with a full tank?

I ran about 7 gallons of filtered motor oil with 21 gallons of dieasel when fuel got out of had last summer. Also ran about a 40% mix of used tranny fluid to diesel(this was my perfered mix). I didn't do these at the same time. The funny thing is I got better milage out of the tranny mix. My guess was you were talking about a diesel.

What kinda of filtering process did you use? Did the tranny fluid make for any funky smelling/color smoke?

I run 2 cycle oil in my big truck all the time it helps to lube the injectors and the pump a guy that works for CAT told me to run it. 1 pint treats 100 gallons I notice about a half mile to the gallon increase in fuel milage

yea I was told to run about 28oz to a full tank

What engine are you referring to?
I have a friend with a NA 7.3 that will run straight tranny fluid in, or mix burnt oil with diesel with.
I run 50/50 veggie /diesel in the summer months, winter I'll mix up some tranny/diesel.
.05 micron filter bag from ebay works for me. ran all last summer & only had to change my truck filter once in the fall, in a 2000 psd

2001 24V 5.9 Cummins

I run the walmart ashless tc3 2 stroke oil in mine. 1 oz per gallon.

I've got 5.9 cummins. I ran a 3 barrel setup on my filter system. The first was just unfiltered then I pumped through a 5 micron oil filter style filter to a second settlement barrel and let it stay there a few days. Then pumped into a 3rd barrel through a 1 micron filter that was also a screw on . Yes that much tranny mix did puff a small amount of smoke and smelled a little, but not bad at all on either account.

i pour all my oil changes straight into the tank, and with that little, there is no excessive smoke except a puff right on startup

(12v cummins)

I use .5 oz to 1 gal, so basically one of the pint size tcw3 walmart 2 strokes to a full tank. or there abouts. I did 1oz for a while and the milage seemed to be worse, but it sure was quieter though. 24V 5.9

Helps to lube up the pump for the ULSD, if I find LSD i don't use the oil.

I also dump my oil changes into the tank. Never any real problems.

Anyone know of LSD in the asheville area?

I'm not diesel savvy, but do you mean you put your used oil (from oil changes) into the fuel tank of your Dodge and run it with the diesel?

yes he does

the beauty of a diesel...they'll run on (almost) anything... :D

in case you also have this question...all the "veg oil conversion" kits you read about really have nothing to do with the motor...they are just a way to heat and/or filter the vegetable oil...

so yes, a motor designed to run on diesel will run just fine on the oil you just cooked french fries in...just needs to be filtered to get out the contaminants, and needs to be warm enough that it's not solidified...

that being said, I think you can see how the diesel wouldn't have a problem running on motor oil, transmission fluid, etc...remember, with a diesel, you're not trying to ignite the fuel with a spark plug like you do in a gas motor...

Just keep in mind for anyone reading this, the newer cummins injectors (03 and up) are not as forgiving as the older trucks. I would not suggest running unfiltered used motor oil in a common rail truck.....

If its a 12 valve, it seems like about anything is ok.

I missed the common rail by a few years

Yep

I'm going to fill the dodge up today and try out the 2cycle oil

i do this with my 06 as well sometimes. gone through about 8-9 gallons of unfiltered used rotella with no ill effects. that was about 6 months ago.

always did it with an almost full tank, 3 gal of oil at a time. ran many tanks of straight #2 since then. going to change oil today as well as fuel filter, will report back if anythings out of whack.

I'm going to get a FASS system sometime this summer
