Oil pressure problem I'm not sure???

I have a Chevy Tahoe I just got done changing the oil in it 10w40. Just put a sending unit on it got a brand new oil filter. I was hoping that would fix the problem but I still have it so my problem is. When I am driving down the road the oil gauge goes all the way to 80 psi and drops back down especially whenever I get on the gas pedal hard. I think I hear ticking in the front as if the oil is not getting to the top but I'm not sure if that wasn't there before and I just now noticed it. This might not be a problem at all but it is not normal when I first bought the vehicle it was not doing this. Any help will be appreciated.

Side note it never drops below the middle

Oil pressure should increase with engine rpm. Always being between 40 and 80 sounds exceptionally high, but its cold and you're running heavier oil than recommended unless this is an older Tahoe.

So, what year and engine? How many miles are on it?

I apologize I intended to put that information in as well 97 Chevy Tahoe with a 350 V8 and I agree with you it is cold but last winter it did not act like this.

Ahh, I'm not as familiar with those. When I hear Tahoe my mind automatically goes to 2000-2006 5.3. We did have an '88 Silverado 350 that always ran high indicated oil pressure like that.

I got to admit it's been doing this for a little bit I was thinking it was just the sending unit but I just fixed that today but it still runs strong

Yeah I'm like at 1500 rpm and 80 psi going down the road and the noise I hear is exhaust leak. I'm guessing gauge

My 98 Vortech 350, was labeled for 5 / 30, oil I believe. I always ran Mobile 1, synthetic 10 / 30. Held center of oil pressure gauge, & never used a drop. Sold it with 120,000 on it.

Yeah what year is it? The 99-02 GM vehicles had awful cluster issues. Some of the earlier models did too.

Everybody says that about the 99-02, but I have a 99 AND an 02 and they're both original clusters. Maybe I'm just lucky...or maybe I just jinxed myself :D

Yeah the engine itself is running fine can I t off and run a mechanical gauge while still keeping my original one hooked up for the fuel pump stuff
