Oil Pressure

Generally when I am driving the oil pressure will be at 60 when I stop it will be around 40. However I have noticed sometimes it will be pegged at 80. When I slow down it will resume back down to 40. The guy that had this Jeep before me did replace the oil sensor I think is what he said. Is it a bad gauge or sensor. Just don't want to be driving down the road and have anything blowup.

Thanks, Troy

Yo,
I suggest you have a mechanical gage installed or used by a mechanic to see that the real reading are at different RPM's
when at normal operating temperature. That way you will know for sure. The electrical gages are fair at best on older vehicles. If the sensor was replaced then its the gage, wiring, both or reality.
You can get a mechanical gage at any parts store and can be installed between motor and pressure gage. A Saturday afternoon job.

Hey Troy. Excessive oil pressure can also be caused by blow by. Compression leaking by the rings and pressurizing the engine. I think you would see other signs if that were the case, oil leaks, oil in your breather, etc. Just something else to consider.
