Was on another forum for months until I saw ya'll mentioned (they have been checking your for sale ads out and had a link).

Anyhow another Carolina dude here now. Not real knowlegable on the whole 4 wheel drive scene yet (more into musclcars) but saw this one years ago and had to have it and years later (had to deal with wifes cancer with little kids to boot) anyhow now starting the learning curve on the Wagoneer.

It is an 81 model not sure of much more then that.Doesn't have genuine simulated wood grain (fine with me) so not sure if that makes mine a strippo or what?

Has the 360 2bbl,a/c,cruise, just put a set of 31x10.50x15's on it.Serviced the Dana 44 and GM 10 bolt(correct me if wrong on all this still learning). has Quadratrac.

Just trying to decide if I want to keep it looking stock on the outside or go for roof rack with lamps, tint the windows from backdoors back so no one can see my tools and do some performance upgrades(alum intake,4bbl,headers, etc).

Big thing now is getting a new complete Cardone double velocity joint (going for whole part from yoke to yoke).Waiting on Napa guy on delivery time.

The attached picture is after 7 years behind the barn as the Jeep got abandoned while fighting her cancer and keeping the family in one piece. I will send a better picture today.

Anyhow good to be here. Anyone got a decent, cheap 81 grill?
Thanks,

John

John,

Welcome! Thanks for introducing yourself and good luck with the project. I hope, if you're getting into this project, that your wife is doing well?

Yes Sir she is doing very well (Thank God,literally) was Stage 3 and in her lymph nodes but she has been cancer free for almost 8 years.

She was the one who wanted this Jeep because her Dad had one when she grew up in Appalachia. She said "Find something to trade him but see if you can get that cool Wagoneer from George".Took some working on him but I got it. Looks worse in the picture then it is. Motor was rebuilt with only 3000 miles on it now and 89k on the body : )

I always wanted to buy this one wagoneer from my uncle.... My plan was to paint it and put racks and lights and bumpers and stuff all over it. I guess like a expedition vehicle for camping or something. But he ended up junking it without my consent.:shaking:

Yeh my Turbo dually crew cab died and I was staring at the Jeep and my 10 year old little daughter came up and said "Daddy why don't you and I fix the Jeep?"

She wanted to help sand and paint it too (we have been through this before ha ha) anyhow so I got several pints of Por-15 rust proofing in satin black and brushes(yes, i said brushes) and she and I made it look 100% better (I did sand, epoxy and shot the roof with my spray rig though).

Hey it isn't a $5000 brag all day paint job but I am proud that my daughter and I spent some time together and it is a memory we will have for years to come.Just glad she didn't ask me to do it in pink! ha ha

Hey, family time is what this sport is supposed to be about. It's better to have a perfect shared memory with your daughter than remembering how perfect the paint was after it's scratched in the woods.

Glad to hear your wife is doing good now. Hope to see ya on the trails.

Nice Waggy. LMAO at the honeysuckle photo.

You could always ditch the 81 grille and convert it back to a M715/Gladiator style grille...
