Old engine Startup/Restore

Ive never taken a pressure washer to an engine.
Chip makes a good point about the bearing areas and their weep holes, maybe a bad idea to get much gunk in there. I personally dont think you will need a pressure washer at all.

But if you want try it and let us know how it turns out

replace 1 quart of engine oil with ATF and drain after 1k.. I was recommended to try this on a very dirty engine, seemed to help..

Either way, they will either help it, or kill it.

That will work but if this is a very old engine the some of the sludge may be stopping up the leaks. So Just beware of this. Of course I would suggest resealing it with all new gaskets anyways.

and what are the odds once you get it apart you'll ever put it back together again ?

If it spins over by hand, and you know for a fact it was running when pulled, get it running again before you tear it down.

at least then if you find the need to tear it down, you have a goal of more than just clean up. other wise, you end up doing it twice (or more) and by this time, you'll have it mocked up and mounted in what ever it is you're building.

Be a real pisser if ya tear it down, clean things up, buy new gaskets, and reassemble, only to find out you need to go back into it deeper and RE PURCHASE most of what you alreadt did.

Think about it

I learned the hard way not to put something in that hasn't ran in awhile without going through it first. No point in spending time and money on something the have it take a shit and have to start all over. Just do it right the first time and be done with it
