Let's hope the title doesn't get this moved into the "garage".

Got rid of the the two piece drive shaft and the weak point being the carrier bearing for my '06 2500 Cummins MegaCab, and added in this beaut'. 6" OD, Mopar part made by ALCOA. Haven't gave her a test run yet, but everyone who ran this type of shaft states the truck runs smoother and that it eliminates some launch shudder. Shaft weighs around 40lbs. versus the 80 + lb. factory shaft. They also added this style shaft to all the new generation LWB trucks, so something has to be better about this set-up than the previous version. We'll see how she goes :driver:

I think my Indian is impressed also

Holy crap, that is a biggun. You work quick, I just talked to you 2 or 3 days ago and you were thinking about this upgrade. Something tells me it was already in the mail at that point.

Nah not in the mail at that time, but Dodge did match the cheapest online dealer of the part, and gave me next day shipping for free. SOLD

If you ever ding the shaft it will vibrate BAD, but I like the solid shaft better than the two peice. Less U joints = less trouble for me.

I did this same upgrade to my truck about a year ago. It fixed the launch shudder, and a ton of other vibes that i never noticed until they were gone. Great upgrade and well worth the money if your factory ujoints and carrier bearing are about ready for replacement anyway.

Yeah I did take that into account, the other one has made it this long scar free, and I figured I'd go through a few carrier bearings before I might happen to dent this one. We shall see, as driving across country there ain't no telling what could happen!

Geebus.... that's huge.

How much $$?

Just over $500.

Talk to a couple of my fav. driveline shops, and a few couldn't do the length, some couldn't do the aluminum, and some weren't sure about it at all. I figured if I didn't like it I can off-load it on Cummins forum, DTR or similar pretty doggone easy.

I replaced all my joints and carrier(x2) last year and have kicked my self in the butt a dozen times since I had like $400 in materials. This is what I should've done. Only thing is w/ mine I've got a '05 3500 w/ the nv5600 and I'd had to cut it down which would've added some $$.

WOW ! Your Indian does look impressed... "Me smokem new peace pipe"

My van has a large single piece alum shaft but that one is more bigger.
