I have run across an 03 s-10 4x4 with 38,xxx miles.4.3, auto. I am sort of leery about it. I am afraid that once you started driving it on a regular basis (I drive about 80 miles round trip a day) stuff would start to go bad/leak/etc. what do you think?

As long as it was maintained well you shouldn't have any problems. Especially with it being that new. But like with any used vehicle purchase, go over it with a fine tooth comb.

I see no problems arising unless it was driven 38k in the first year or two and sat for 5-6 years, even then, probably at the worst you will have some gummed up injectors to clean out.

Just do the usual, look it over real good, drive it, and if/when you buy it go through all the fluids so that YOU know whats in there, and when it was done. I see no problems with buying what sounds like it was some guys sunday driver/go to the dump vehicle.

I'd buy it.. Don't care how will its been maintained or not, short or normal oil changes. I'd start off with normal 36k maintenance items on it assuming they hadn't been done and move on from there..

Replace/flush all fluids.
New belts & hoses
Grease what can greased.
Drive it !

Short trips stuff can cause lots of issues but for the most part its new enough to not matter...
