My dad has a 1966 GMC regular cab stepside truck. My grandfather bought it new and it has been in the family since. It is no show truck, it has been used around the farm pulling stumps and hauling wood. The wood floor bed is still there, but a diamond plate sheet has been welded over it. It has the straight six with approx 100k original miles on it. The tranny is three on the tree.
My dad is thinking about selling it because he simply doesn't use it that much anymore and he nor I have the knowledge to restore her. So, if he were to sell it, what would be a fair asking price? Ballpark of course.

If that were a Ford...I'd say it's a $750-1000 truck, hands down. Since comparable chevies seem to be 2-3x's as much, I'd say a fair starting point would be $1500-2000 knowing nothing else than it's a driver.

if its a short bed and if its not ate up with rust, you could probably get 3500 for it if you are patient

I sold one with a maco spray job and springs showing in the seats a few months back for 6000 (65 step side)

if its a long bed...restored it might be worth 2k

^^^Assuming you're a chevy guy and know chevy market value better than I do, I see my Ford to Chevy index is relatively accurate again.

If it were a fleetside shortbed in drivable shape it would go for a bit more than a stepside as well from the trends I've seen. A decent pic or two would get us closer to a true number, if it's a drivable rust clump its a $1000-1500 truck, if the rust is minimal and the body is fairly straight $3000+ Being a farm truck I'd put my money on it being closer to the $1500-2000 range.

65/66 is the desired years for those trucks, but not a GMC...collectors want a chevrolet (sorry)

I put many hours of blood sweat and beer into this 62 chevy stepside because it was "free" only to sell it at 90% complete for $6k due to the (ex) wife wanting a new house

If you want to try some forums,

73-87chevytrucks.com as well as 67-72chevytrucks.com has some really good peoples, that know a great deal about the values and what ones worth for sale, and also would be a good place to list it.

^ nice truck!!

I have always dreamed of restoring the old GMC, but I just don't have the knowledge, patience or money.

This GMC is a stepside short bed, 2wd (which in the limited research I have done is worth more than the 4wd for some reason). I will try to get pictures sometime, the body is mostly straight, the driver rear fender is in rough shape due to a guy rear-ending the truck on the road back in the 80s.

Seems like a fair starting price might be anywhere between 1500 and 2000. I am sure he really doesn't want to get rid of it, but at least he can have a ball park of what it would be worth should he want to sell it.

^ nice truck!!

Thanks...it was one HELLOVA terd when I got it!

I have always dreamed of restoring the old GMC, but I just don't have the knowledge

Prior to this project I had only changed the oil in a vehicle and never attempted anything further.

I bought a manual for this truck, and about 10 others. One of which was "how to rebuild a 350"

I read or researched everything I needed. Even learned to weld on this project.

It was the biggest learning experience I ever had to date...OK wait...my first marriage was a close runner up

I started this in 97 before the internet base was really established.

I developed them over the 4 years it took to do this project

This is the reason for the manuals.

I did everything....less SPRAY the paint. I did let a buddy do that in his "shop"

It was fun...and it "learned" me a great deal

WELL worth the time and effort....especially if there is any centimental value involved.
