will i tried my orbital valve and it made my steering wheel turn. i must have a couple line crossed. does anyone have any ideas?

It's not rocket science.... you started the motor, and the wheel drifted? Did the ram move too? What happens when you turn the wheel with the engine off?

Balanced ram, or single-end?

valve

If the valve is not put together properly it can become a hydraulic motor. Crossed lines may cause the same. Be carefull, they can be fairly strong.

i think i got it figured out

i found a couple diagrams. i just have the lines crossed. the first diagram i found was differant than how mine is. P for punp. T is for tank. L left. R right.

well i got it all workin. but it doesn't steer very easy. i have the stock power steering pump that is on my 350. i wonder if i need a high flow one. any ideas?

I have a stock one, along with at least 5 more in the muddevils-no problems.

Bigwoody got a psc pump, ran it, and put the stock one back on.

take the high pressure line off the back of the pump, then take the bigger nut adaptor off, pull the spring out and stretch it about .5" then reassemble.

A stock sag pump will do the job. A hopped-up sag pump is better.

I'd highly recommend increasing the size of the fluid reservoir and installing a large cooler on the return side. A pressure-side filter is an absolute requirement. I saw two $300 paperweights get created last week when guys lost their PS pumps. One of those "It's been working like that for years, never had a probl... uh, ooops" moments.

pump

it semms to be workin pritty good know. i stretched the spring and drill it out. i also took a couple shims out. i just need to give it a good test run. where can i get a filter?

What are you using for fluid ?

IIRC, you can run a either an in-line or remote hydraulic filter (Northern has them for under $20 for the base & element) off the return side...

Planning to add one to mine when I plumb the cooler... been getting very hard to steer after a couple of minutes. I stretched the spring, but didn't drill the orifice out on my pump. OTOH, it could be the ATF I'm running?

I've been thinking about adding a filter to my set up too. I have hydro assist with a tranny tube and fin type cooler. Stock Ford PS pump with the orifice drilled out for higher flow. I am running ATF. Not much use on it, but so far so good.
