where is the best place to camp and leave my truck/trailer? I have heard not to leave it at the trail head parking

Depends on what your looking for, I normally camp in one of the spots off the trail or forest road, there are few spots that are large enough to park the truck and trailer in front of, Just be sure to keep the truck and trailer on the side of the road and not up in the camp area.

At the main parking lot on 553 I've camped out there a few times! Gets kinda dusty but you meet a bunch of people. If I'm looking at the map right Road 597 also has a couple spots you can pull a trailer off as well. (But I'm bad with road names so...)

I've camped overnight at Art Lilly Campground a few times now. And parked my vehicle w/ trailer at almost every parking lot at one time or another. I generally camp at/with my van but I've always felt uneasy about leaving it due to the people I see around.

As far as parking along the road. Please don't.

It might be fine if you camping out of your vehicle and drive there etc.. But people park their trailers there all the time and 1 does it others are soon to follow and the roads just aren't big enough for people to park along them.

Also I try to park at an angle to the road/exit such that others can easily park in the same way and vehicles/trailers can get in and out. (Sorta like the angled rows at a truck stop) more less set a good example and the others who don't consider such small details will just follow suit...

All that said.... I think the Art Lilly campground is a damn nice spot and hope to camp there a good bit this year..

any body parked at the outpost and camped along the trail? I have never camped at ure so i was just wondering

I've been to URE once and that was this past year and loved it. I parked at the parking area at the start of Daniel and said next time I go I'm going to park there and find a camping spot on the trail. I can't wait to go back.

When I camp on the Badin Lake road I make sure to pull my tow/trailer fully off the road and not on any grassy areas either.

yes I've done this quite a few times. I'm always sure to ask @ the Outpost if I can leave the towrig there, they have no problem, they just have you park over to the side in the dirt lot. I feel better asking/letting someone there know that's my junk parked in their lot each time I do this.

There are plenty of clearings along the trails to set up a primitive camp site.

what about having the tow rig and trailer at your primitive campsite. Just drive to where you want to camp, setup camp, unload the rig, and you're already on the trail
Thats what you do at the Art Lilley campsite, you park in the parking lot and camp right behind the parking lot so your rig, trailer and truck are always visable

anybody stayed at the ure hunt camp right off of 109? where is the art lily camp ground?

well i have found the art lily camp ground on a map. does it have a shower (wife's request), do u need to pay? sorry for all the dumb questions

The hunt camp and the Art Lilley camp don't have showers. There is a fee for the hunt camp, but not sure on Art Lilley. If you want a campground with showers you are going to have to look at Arrowhead, and I think the Badin Lake Campground has showers also.

You can go to Arrowhead and pay $3 per person for use of the bathhouse if you are primitive camping. Just drop it in the pay tube and put your name on the envelope. If it is a large group you need to check in with Janet.
