instead of buying the expensive kit, would it be a bad idea to just flip the tie rods over to the top of the knuckle?

The taper is the knuckle goes in the opposite direction. Not a bad idea to drill out the taper and use heims though, on top side of the knuckle.

what size heims would be good and sturdy and do you need to run a spacer of some sort?

either way, you will have to buy a kit or make your own.
you can get go-fer-it inserts that have the same tre and flip the drivers side.

best bet is to either go wj knuckle/ brake swap or go 1ton tre's


another option is to buy DOM and tube inserts and some heims. i ran this set-up for a while and did ok. i needed high-missaligntment spacers cause my reg spacers and they hit and limited my flex
