What’s my best course of action to touch up the paint on my Jeep? The PO did a mediocre job painting it, it just flakes off when things rub or scratch it. When I unbolted the dash the bolts just flaked the paint off when I turned them.

Should I just do my best to match it with spray paint until I can get it repainted? I’d prefer it to look at least somewhat decent.

My .02 would be for around the area where the top comes on and off would be to tape the lower “body break line” on the body and use a solid coat of undercoating. More scuff resistant/ hides more whoops.

That’s not a bad idea to just paint that body line. My Jeep was black from the factory and I’ve gone back and forth to paint it black or go one of the tan colors offered in the 80s.

I’d echo what @skyhighZJ said. I use the Rustoleum truck bed coating to redo the step pads on my RV climbing in and out of the cab. Blue or green tape follows the body lines and peels away easily to leave the protective paint in whatever shape you left for it. Been climbing in and out for 2 years and still looks great.

Make sure if you do this you peel the tape while the undercoating is still “moist”. Otherwise you will be using a razor blade to cut it off.
