I got a couple of questions:

1. Can you put multiple coats of primer on one another without sanding between.

2. Is it better to put multiple coats of primer and 1 or 2 coats of paint or 1 coat of primer and multiple coats of paint.

Thanks,
Ray

the only primer i am familiar with that you can paint over without sanding is some kinds of etching primer. But i am still not comfortable spraying something without sanding it before hand in any condition. Multiple coats of primer would be used in a situation where you had alot of rough surface to cover over, primer is meant to prep a rough surface to make it smooth for painting. So if you have bad spot put a couple of coats on and sand until smooth. But IMHO i would not coat anything without sanding if you want it to last

Its definatly better to sand in between coats of primer. Nothing super time consuming just enough to know off any rough surfaces. It took me maybe fifteen minutes to lightly sand in between coats and onother ten or so to wipe it down with cleaner and a tack cloth.

Spray as much primer as you need to ge the surface perfect. I usually sand blast, then put a coat of self etch primer, do any body filler work, and then cover that with a high build sandable primer. If you have any small pits or tiny dents that need to be filled you can spray and sand as much primer as you need. I put two coats of color and two coats of clear on my VW and it turned out pretty good.

If you dont sand one layer the following layer has noting to stick to. Sanding smoothes but also provides a "textured" surface for proper adhesion of primer or paint.

Holy crap! That is an absolutely amazing paint job for uing a roller. I'd like to do that to the 'yota, but then I'd have to change my screen name.:bounce:
