paranoid cucv dana 60 question

The front dana 60 I bought out of a CUCV is about ready to go in my rig. But there is a hole in the top of the housing that is about 5/16" diameter drilled through just behind diff cover on the drivers side of the pinion. All I can figure is that's the vent hole but its not tapped to accept a hose adapter. Is there some mysterious press in adapter that the factory uses or what?

Also the rear 14 bolt has a hole in the diff cover that looks like it was blown out with a 22 shell from the inside. Is this some sort of decomissions operation done by the government when they scrap these trucks or am I just paranoid and need to tap the vent hole for a hose adapter, and weld up the 14-bolt diff cover and move on??

That is the vent for the 60. Pull cover, tap it out while NOT allowing the shavings to drop in the housing.
The 14 bolt hole you describe sounds like one of the short bolts that keep the preload clip in place may have backed out and bound between the ring gear and cover. Take the cover off and inspect it.

sounds good, thanks guys. I figured as much on the vent just never seen one that wasn't tapped. I picked these things up dirt cheap and nearly complete (all but one hub on the 60) and was beginning to think maybe I got what I paid for.
