My dad is 70 and he devotes most of his time to this cause. Put down your cell phone , get your head out of your ass and pay attention to what you are doing behind the wheel. These guys are doing a wonderful and honerable thing, don't be a self centered idiot behind the wheel and injure or kill one of them. Most of them survived one or more wars and are doing a great service to our fallen heros, they don't deserve to die like this.

Sorry to hear it... it is really scary how little attention people pay to the road and other cars around them, and especially to motorcycles. My prayers will be with the victim's friends and family.

I saw the mission for him in an email from PGR. He's going to have one heck of a send off from his PGR brothers and sisters.

Dad says that a group of them are comming up from Bama to give him a proper send off.

It is a shame. The patriot guard is a good cause.

Not to take away from his death, but nothing was said about the driver being on a phone. It said they swerved to avoid a rear end collision and hit the gentleman.

I understand that nothing was said in the news article about a phone but the indications are that the driver was " distracted" and the investigation is ongoing. I drive in this traffic everyday and see people talking on the phone, texting, reading newspapers or magazines, shaving, putting on make-up, or what ever they do other than driving. The point is if you sit behind the wheel then you are there to drive and nothing else. If you want to do the rest of that other crap then stay at home. I see it every day no matter where I drive and the person at fault is rairly the one who gets hurt. This time it was a long time friend of the family, it is time for this crap to stop.

Maybe I am to close to the issue to be objective but we have had to go to 6 funerals in the past 2 years for similar instances with guard members and other veteran motorcycle riders killed by distracted drivers. When does this issue become serious enough for people to change their crappy driving habits?

Preach on Dawg. I get it.

I am right there with you Brother!I tell my wife all the time, when she is driving the car that isn't "catch up with my friends time",That's "Drive the Damned car and pay attention time".She actually hit a parked car one time in the rain 30 seconds after I said to her"It's raining, get off the phone and drive".I don't care who you are,if you are on the phone or doing something else then that is taking away from the milliseconds it occasionally takes to avoid an accident that could result in someone's loss of life.It actually makes me happy that I can't hear my phone when I am in my Jeep because of the Super Swampers. It's not worth it,Just Drive.

People think I'm crazy for not having a cell phone. I see it as a leash or a tether and I don't want people to get a hold of me 24/7; I'm not that damn important. I have personally almost been hit several times because of some asshat on the phone chatting it up and when I lay on the horn they look at me like I'm the asshole and need to get out of their way. The screwed up part is that this happened to a guy that was helping a fallen soldier and his family and like the other person said probably made it through combat somewhere just to get hit on the highway. I hate it when people try to do anything else but drive while behind the wheel, it just really gets under my skin.

I understand. I think drivers overall have gotten worse. Not just when distracted. Driving in the passing lane, pulling out, yes and reading and makeup, texting, phones etc.

So many people tow heavy as well with no trailer brakes.

I know its a patriot guard, but isn't all life precious? What if it was somebody else? I understand you're probably more upset because he's a friend.
