so this summer someone thought it would be really cool to stab a hole in the sidewall of my 38in bogger. The hole is only about a 1/2in long so is there any SAFE streetable way to fix/patch this hole. It would be a spare if fixed, but advice is appreciated

Yes, take it to a place that does semi tires and tell them you want it vulcanized. Tell them it's for farm use so you relieve them of liability. They can litterally make it look like new.

BTW have a normal tire place take it off the rim first.

you can buy the patches and vulcanize it yourself, not as good as the simi tire place but will work. I have seen a guy with a 40" tire with a 6" gash sew it shut with nylon tread, patch it and runs a tube. Not sure if he used it much, I was always curious abut the tread pulling threw the tire due to sidewall flex. I would not trust a tire with sidewall damage on the road.

I have put many miles on a tire that had a 4" sidewall cut. It really looks like new except a little thicker in that area. I trust it completely.

7-8 years ago at the DR, I saw truggy cut a 44" Swamper about 6"-8" long in the middle of the sidewall. They pulled 1 side off the rim and using a drill to make the holes, "stitched" it up every 3/8" using safety wire. They heated up a couple of old school patches (lit the glue) and slapped them inside (after cleaning) over the twists. After seeing them several times over the weekend (with no apparent problems), I thought it was pretty cool.

Fast forward a couple years where I saw the same truggy running the same tire (kinda obvious with the "Frankenstein" stitches)! I asked the driver about it and said it had held up just fine, included driving off the trail several miles completely flat during 1 outing!
