Permatex Recommendation

I’m working on an ‘81 Scrambler for a friend. His rear axle (AMC 20 with Nitro Axle one-piece kit) keeps leaking onto the wheel. I sealed the perimeter of the cap, which helped, but now I think it’s leaking through the three bolts that retain the cap. So my next solution is to put a dab of Permatex on the threads to seal them.

Since it seems that Permatex makes about a dozen different types of sealant, I’d love a recommendation on which one would be best for “wet bolts”, knowing that it will need to cure in a slightly oily environment. (I have the axle jacked up on that side, theoretically causing the oil to flow away from the axle end)

Here are some pictures for illustration and because I know everyone loves photos...

Ultra black is my go to rtv. Brakeclean threads as best you can and install.

A thread locker like locktite blue would seal too but has to be clean.

In this application even teflon paste, permatex no2 which is non hardening, or even a few wraps of teflon tape may do the job.

A dab of of Ultra black under the head and around the upper non-threaded shoulder of the bolt should do it. Teflon tape on the threads likely won't make a difference since the leak path is at the shoulder and hole in the cover.
