Warning: cellphone pictures (left my camera at home)

I went on my annual blackpowder hunt in Kentucky last week and scored 325lbs of deer!

I saw 9 deer in total, scoping 6 of them.

Last morning of the hunt (had let a few walk) I shot this 140lb doe at about 45 yards. It ties the farm record for a doe (weight):

Cleaned the doe, stuck the meat in the cooler and decided I would check out an area I had not hunted before. Last afternoon to hunt for the year in KY (blackpowder season is only two days) and 30 minutes before dark this bad boy walked behind me (around 45 yards). I happened to see him by pure luck, just a random "check 6". I only had about 10 seconds to get my scope on him and decide if he was a shooter. I counted 8 tines and liked the body size, so I moved down to the shoulder and squeezed the trigger. About 45 minutes later I found him, and not 13 hours after that he was at the taxidermist!

Excuse the pictures- I had already stripped out of my camo and only had a cellphone for shots.

8 points and 185lbs:

Can't wait for next year!

Wow very nice! I think your cell phone takes better pictures than my camera.

Nice deer!

Thanks guys!

With the quality of the land I was hunting on, the owner wouldn't have shot this one. The buck had the beginnings of his 10 points already growing and surely would have been a 200lb'er 10 next year.

My dad's friend (owner of the land) has managed the property for 10 years now and has an 8 point or better rule. The land is in the number one county in KY for monster bucks and it is obvious as to why.

In 10 years, including my buck, he now has 14 deer mounted from the property, with mine being the second smallest to go on a wall. His son shot a 225lb 13 point two weeks ago during the youth hunt and to put in perspective how big the deer are there:

My deer pictured has a 14" inside spread, but very tall tines. Most of his mounters have the same tines or bigger, but also sport an 18" to 22" inside spread :shaking:
