I have a silver 4dr dakota and want to tint the windows but I'm not sure what will look best on silver or if it will even matter.

Basically I'm looking for silver trucks with 20% or darker, if you could add how dark it is along with a picture that would be great.

thanks,
chris

Before anyone else has a chance to tell you that 20% is illegal, I will.

My truck is 5%, but its not silver.

20% will probably match your factory tint on the rear doors the best.

I probably should have added that in there, I do know that below 32% is illegal but I will have my inspectors license before inspection is due so I'm not too worried about the truck passing.

lmfao... thats classic right there

The NC inspection system is a joke and this guy proves it

Actually the law is. The front side windows must be 32%. The rear side windows and back windows can be painted black if you want. Trucks only. Got stopped in Cary for window tint and the officer with the light meter that showed up later explained it too the guy that stopped me. I sure wish the front would've been legal so I could've read the guy the riot act for not knowing the law. I was an inspector too at the time so I passed myself. What's the difference between an inspector passing his own vehicle and ANYTHING a politician does? Just using the loophole in the system.:huggy:

Comments like that will get you shut down before you get them. I only hope the right people aren't reading these post for your sake.:stupid:

Ah yes lets just inform the whole world you are planning to break the law.
Brilliant idea.

Ohh gee and now I've saved it for posterity, too...

Even if I wasn't going to inspect it myself there are still ways around it, the vehicle is actually supposed to be inspected as it comes in so if the windows are down when it pulls in then they are supposed to stay down which doesn't let you test it. This is basically never followed and even if it were to be, if you pull your power window fuse out there is no way they could put it up to test anyway. As far as breaking the law, the lift law in North Carolina is that the vehicle cannot be more than 6" higher than stock. This means total height not just amount of lift, if you put on a 6" lift and increase your tire size any then you are breaking this law. There are loopholes in everything, I guess I kinda opened a can of worms on this one while only managing to get one picture, I did manage to start a thread on inspections being a joke and breaking laws.

Heres a link to the lift laws before that becomes a topic also.

Its not illegal to lift or lower your vehicle more than 6 inches if your vehicle is used for occasional offroad use...........

NC GENERAL STAT:
Chapter 20, 20-135.4

HardTaco: I did not know that, thanks for the information. I saw 6" max on every lift kit manufacturer site that i checked so I assumed they would be right.

How many threads have there been about "My windows are too dark to pass NCSI. What do I do?" And then there's 2-3 pages about "roll the windows down and pull the fuse and tell the guy the windows don't work." Or the thread about "How much over the speed limit do you drive." Virtually everyone that posted admitted to speeding between 5 and 9 MPH over. The cops have bigger fish to fry than a guy who's tint is too dark. (Unless you're in Cary. Maybe they should go around looking for people who have their garage doors open longer than 30 minutes.)

I not knocking us(yes I got 5% all the way around the wifes car), But what I'm saying is that I've seen two shops and several mech. put themselves in a finical bind from the fines the dmv hands out for improper inspection. Be more careful about disclosing what one might or might not due that is in the "gray" area. By the way, the darker the better imo.

I have 15% on my heep and when I take it to get inspected I keep the windows rolled down and the man has not said anything for the past 3 times.

ive never tinted anything other than 5% except for my moms car which i went legal on. in my eyes if your going to go 20% your already illegal....so why not go 5%. 5% will look good on your silver.

I find it looks best if all the side windows match...

its all about the head lights

actually NC lift law has ZERO to do with headlights....

But onto topic.
MOVE TO SC, no inspections and no tint law

i dont think its headlights being to high...i think its the beam at 15 feet...or something like that. that rarely gets checked anyway.

I do not know the tint law and inspection process, but if a cop pulls you over while you have an illegal tint and gives you a ticket, wouldn't there be a way for a cop or some kind of agency to see that you did your own inspection?? Or is there a way to throw up a red flag when too many tickets are handed out for tints, and all got there inspection in one place? I do not know that is why I am asking. It seems easy snice everything is in the dmv computers

The DMV and the inspection are not really linked that way. Yea the inspection sticker is supposed to have the inspectors name on the back of it. I've been stopped a bunch of times with illegal tint and never been questioned about it. (Just how fast I was going). (Except that one in Cary.)

My truck is a rolling ticket but I have never been stopped for anything other than speeding. It all depends on how you act. If you go around showing your ass with the stereo up then you will draw attention and probably be stopped. My truck is a 1995 Chevy C1500 and I'm running straight pipes(very very loud!!!), 5% tint, illegal wattage headlights, burnt out taillight(for 2 years now) and have never had any problems. I have a buddy that does my inspections for me. The biggest thing is just don't draw attention to yourself and most the times even if johnny law sees your tint or your burt out light etc... he wont even bother with it. He's most likley more concerned about the yahoo doing 55 in a 35 or too busy playing some comupter game on his laptop. <---I just saw one doing exactly that about a week ago.

Now that I wrote all this I bet I get pulled over tomorrow!
