Pinion Gaurd Waggy d44

The thing in the picture is spinning on my rear pinion. The diff is transplanted from a waggy. No crush sleeve. Pinion feels fine but the ring is making a god awful rachet. Can I just tack weld it back to the pinion yoke?

It's a seal guard, do what ever you want with it..

That is what I thought just gonna tack it to the pinion yoke.
