I have a Northern Tool plasma cutter dual voltage 40amp. I've read on other sites (miller, Lincoln etc) that the tip can touch the work when it is at or below 40amps. I have yet to find anything in the user manual or any forums about the Klutch torch. I have tried to maintain a distance but a spacer guide would be much more effective, but just wanted to know if it depends on the manufacturer.

1/16" is usually fine. All you may have a short between the electrode and tip/nozzle if you can't drag it.

Yeah was thinking a stand off would be good, went thru consumables by cutting off upper control arm brackets , a few 3/8 tabs (pretty big plus the max sever thickness) like 12" linear inches each, plus a lot of "trial" and error on some scrap stock. Also do not have any dryer on the air lines yet.
