my dad wants to get me and my bro a plasma cutter for x-mas
hes on a tight budget (ie. 500)... now i know 500 isnt a lot for a good plasma, but my brother will get 20% off at northen, and both of us are fairly educated on this stuff.
so my question what is what does everyone think here is the best all around plasma cutter for the best price
thanks
jordan

I got mine from Northern for around 500. Its either the 375 or 275, can't remember off hand...

Either way, It'll do 40 amps, and I regularly cut 1/4" with it no problem. I've used the crap out of it for the past 2.5 years and have had no issues. I'm very happy with what I got with the money I spent.

Its cheaper than name brand stuff in price, and you get what you pay for. I'm not comparing Hyundai's to BMWs but my hyundai is still a nice plasma for the price.

I use a hypermax/powertherm 1100 at school, and it is a big piece of junk. It is extremely finnicky and you have to look at it the right way to get it to cut.

This is just my .02

Hypertherm Powermax 30. Sit on that $500 until you can just over double it, and you've got one of the nicest hobbyist plasmas on the market.

that may be what ends up happenin, ill look into that one,
and ive thought about the northern brand and i wanna get a little better brand, not doubting yours mac5005 but knowing my luck it would keel over the first month

i have a hyp. powermax-30 and it does the trick. around a grand for it though. small and can take anywhere. save the money because you get what you pay for on tools like such

I have to say that I really like Thermal Dynamics products. I've had mine for about 2 years and it has performed extremely well. It is well supported w/ local weld shops and when I bought mine it was the best option for the money with the best warranty as well. It is true what they say about buying a little bigger than you think you will need, I never planned on cutting 1" plate w/mine but that was the second thing I used it for.
$.02 given
