I have a 2003 ford expedition with the 5.4 in it. I am looking at possible reasons for crappy gas MPG yes i know it is an SUV with a V8 but should be getting better than 11 in town with no load. I have never changed coil packs before and beleive that plus the plugs are a big portion of the problem it has 90000 on it i bought it had 70000 on it at the time and Ford swears that you should not have to replace till 100000 but you know how that goes. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jon

I vote you do the plugs. If the coil packs were bad you'd have misfiring and crappy running. It may or may not help your mileage. 11 in town on that big heavy thing sounds about right.

Do the plugs on it.
Be careful Ive seen a few that on the passenger side rear plug people miss thread it easily.

use only motorcraft plugs.

if the truck isn't misfiring, then there isn't any reason to touch the coil packs or the boots. they are expensive and aren't something to replace "just because"

Thanks for the input. I did not know the coils would not cuase the problem as well. Thanks on the info to watch the threads on the back ones. in understand motorcraft platinum plugs only. thanks for all the replies.

just put whatever was in it back in it
i think the owners manual should have the P/N.
i will only use the delcos in my truck since thats whats in it but they are prolly made by someone else anyways
