I got a ticket outside my shop from some punkass cop, couldnt have been old enough to sit on a bar stool. I was speeding by 1 mph, and I know that little fawkhead didnt have me on radar. Anyway, on my ticket he just wrote, "exceeding posted speed limit". And on the ticket where it says speed, it has a "P-42". Also on the ticket where it says "a speed of ___ in a ___ zone", he left blank. Ive tried searching, does anyone know what P-42 means. Im fighting this one till it runs me bankrupt.

I'm not intending to be a dick - but you should have asked him to clarify it when he gave you the ticket. Part of his responsibility is to make sure you understand the offense and what the charges are. If you don't, he didn't do his job.

I'd call the police office and ask them what it means.

Also (somebody please correct me if I'm wrong) at the time you can ask to see how he verified the speed (e.g. see the radar reading) or he'll tell you he estimated it. If he estimated it at only 1mph over, you should be able to easily get that thrown out in court.

If he left that part blank i'm pretty sure that will get it dismissed. I have a "few" speeding tickets and on one the officer put the wrong intersection (he wrote two streets that didnt' intersect) and the DA didn't even try. Hopefully it'll work the same way

aint the speed limit on that road 25?

:fuck-you:

im pretty sure every time ive been hauling ass down it at 50+ mph i thought to myself, "damn, this would be a good place for the fuzz to sit and wait"

holla

When my wife got a ticket in Wilmington I called the Lawyer that represents the PD. I found him by going to the City's Website. He explained they don't have to ever show a radar. Really nice guy that answered all my questions and even gave me a referal for a lawyer in town.

not trying to be an ass, but NC has an absolute speed limit. That means that whether its 1 mph or 10, its still a violation of the law.

If you fight it, no matter what the ticket says, its going to come down to your testimony versus the officer, if he doesnt feel like showing up to court, then you may have a shot of beating it.

just get a copy of your driving record and hire a lawyer. The cop was just doing his job, no matter how old he was.

p-42 means he paced you at 42 mph. Doesn't sound like 1 mph over the speed limit to me. I've never seen a 41 mph sign before. Something you did made the officer think you were going too fast. So he gave he a ticket for exceeding a safe speed. Go talk to the DA on your court date, might get it dropped, be polite, and have a good attitude, if you get your back up, they won't help.

i asked that when i got a ticket on july 4th in sc .when i asked the sc state patrolman that he told me that he wasnt going to argue with me and if i didnt shut up he would arrest me for putting him in a hostile environment. he said now sit there and be quiet while i write you your ticket. i simply asked him nicely. if it werent for going to jail or getting shot to death , i would have knocked his head off. he was a total ass. he told me he didnt radar me. he said he radared the girl in front of me and pulled her, me, and a jeep behind me and wrote us all up for her speed. she was weaving in and out of traffic and cut over in front of me the same time the trooper came around the curve at us. total cost $430.00 76 in a 55 and they would only reduce it to 69 in a 55 at court. all bs.

I had a cop that pulled me over as I was pulling in my store... I park and went to get out is when I saw her. I thought she was going to kill me... She had her hand on the gun and was next to yelling (WTF?) anywho... as I waited... and waited it started to rain... bitch told me I could sit in the jeep, that had no top. I was not allowed to go inside. Then she wanted to assrest me when I tried to explain what good is that, it has no top. I had to get my mom to bring me some clothes after she left. I hate female cops now

heres the deal, its hard to explain. He was sitting in a parking lot on a street thats perpendicular to my shop entrance. And the side street I was traveling has a stop sign. I stopped at the stop sign, turned left and my shop entrance is literaly 100 yards away. I saw him thats why I didnt worry about my speed I didnt think he would pull me over for a matter of 1 mile an hour.

Now as far as him chasing me at 42 mph is total bs. For him to chase me at 42 mph in under 100 yards. For what its worth, I drive a f350 dually with a manual. So from a dead stop at a stop sign to my shop entrance which is a sharp left turn, I can get that heavy ass pig of a truck up to 42 mph in that short of a distance and still leave enough room for him to get out of the lot and chase me.

plus the dumbass tried to give me a ticket for an expired drivers license, he was looking at my birth date.

I used to feel the same way about ALL female cops bc of some BS one pulled on my dad. But about 2 years ago when i was 17 and just had gotten my after nine (i hated that law) I was pulled for running a stop sign at 11pm. Not only did I not stop at the stop sign I spun my wheels around the corner. Female cop pulls me no more than 5'1 120lbs. As she is about to walk up to my explorer she stops backs up to her car and calls for back up. Next thing I know she is walking with one had on her gun and a light in my window with another cop car beside her. She then berated me for running the stop sign and for having too dark of tint on my back windows (which was limo tint). But my front windows had none at all. After her yelling at my for what felt like 5mins she asked for my ID and all that, but my dumbass had left my wallet at home. So now shes really pissed and takes down all the info I give her, and asks me again and again if all of this info is correct and this is really me. She storms back to her car and is in there for what feels like even longer. She comes back and says, "Well honey your information checks out, I'm gonna give you two verbal warnings as long as you promise not to run stop signs and to go get your ID right away I'm not gonna give you a ticket. Have a good night young man."

Pretty sure she thought i was cute?:flipoff2: haha not really but man I felt like the luckiest man in the world right then

The thing that gets me about the Po: Driving 70 in a 65 I get passed by a chick doing atleast 85 and she goes about her marry way. About a minute later I see some headlights in my rearview coming up hard, well turns out it was a Po doing atleast 110 w/o his lights on. Tell me which one is more dangrous? And guess what a cop can say whatever he wants and you cant do chit about it.

Jon - Measure the distance between where you stopped and where you have to turn, then take a photo of your truck, make it look as raggedy as possible...

Also, go on google earth and get a photo of the area in question, and mark the distances, his location, etc...

Take all that with you when you talk to the DA- They never expect that, and I bet you'll get it dropped.

good advice.
Only luck I've had other than random kindness, amusement or pity from the judge, is with lots of pictures, printouts, showing distances from signs etc etc.
(Mainly I showed that where he clocked me I had to still be in the 45 zone, not the 35 zone)
Cop even laughed, apologized and said, "Wow, I bet I've pulled over a ton of people wrong through that zone, and you're the first person to correct me"
While bitter for going to court, it did amuse me almost enough to make it worth missing 4 hours of work.
:D (That one was back in Va, and VERY important as I was on probation. It would have meant my license for 1 year)

Good luck.

This thread needs to be locked before it goes south. Ive seen too many "i just got a ticket" threads turn into police bashing threads. And i know there are a few boys in blue on boards.

Ive got a lot of respect for law enforcement and military and dont want to see either one get flamed on these boards.

That's funny, I was just thinking, "this thread has shown a lot of restraint and respect. I hope it keeps going."

Personally I'd actually like to hear the opinion of said boys in blue, if they feel it is of value, of course. I think it's very important that people feel properly informed of the law, and what is/is not within their rights. If I (or anybody here) have stated something incorrect, I'd want it corrected for the record and so we all know what it is, and is not, true.
We all have to keep in mind that what's state here is not only ope nto all members, but anybody with an internet browser, anywhere in the world (that isn't blocked by their company, lol)

I dont want to bash cops, I respect them and the duty they are doing - just not when a rookie deliberately abuses power to meet a quota. If I was in the wrong, I would suck it up and pay my dues like I have done in the past. My point of view, I saw the cop sitting in the parking lot, the speed is 25 mph zone, my speedo said 26 so I didnt pay any mind. He issued me the ticket and I didnt understand it, he said it would be explained in court if I were to appear and walked away. I even got out of my truck to follow him to explain it and he shrugged me off. What I am really pissed about is it is impossible for me to do 42 mph or for him to have to do 42 mph to catch me on the section he pulled me over at - there isnt enough road. ahh, im going to take Richs advise, plot it out on a topograph and figure in the physics and take it to court. I hope he appears for this one cause Im bringin the pane.

yeah, it hasnt taken a bad turn yet...but i dont wanna see it head that way.
