Pop, Squeek, Clicking in 88 toy rear axle

Trying to figure out where this squeeky, click, popping is coming from in the rear of an 88 4runner. Started as a squeek but is getting worse. Thought it might be the U-joints....so I filled them full of grease, but the sound was still there. I put the truck on a lift and turned the wheels to try and pinpoint the sound. It sounded like it was coming from the middle of the driveshaft???

Could it in the hogshead? Pinion bearing?

pull the drive shaft and turn the back wheels and see if it still makes the sound

X2 The driveshaft will transfer the sound and play tricks on you as to where excatly the noise is coming from. Right now I'm thinking pinion bearing. I live in Kannapolis too so if you need a hand checking it out or anything let me know.

Could be driveshaft splines. maine make a little noise when they get dry

I got it fixed. I dropped the driveshaft and inspected it further to find one of the u-joint bearings was shot. Thanks for the help
