Popping coming from the front...

So i have a 2000 TJ with 35's and a 5 spd. I already know i need it regeared, but what i am wondering is there is a popping sound, not too loud but noticable like the gear is engaging everytime i put it in 1st gear. Not a grinding sound, popping, very short and quick and only when i release the clutch and start rolling in first. It sounds like it is coming from the axle but not too sure. Anyone ever come accross this?
 
Only in 1st. I have an SYE on it so you think its the driveshaft?
 
Guess ill just have to get underneath it and have a friend engage it to find out exactly where the sound is coming from.. It sounds like its coming from the front but you never can tell when driving.... :|
 
Ha ha i just noticed you have coondoggers quote as your sig.. That threat tripped me out, specially when i read that!
 
You might wanna check where the tc shifter is mounted to the body, mine popped from there.

We can take a look at your rear axle as well. you got started on that yet?
