I want to paint the underbody axles ect. on my jeep. Can i or has anyone just used the Blackcoat alone without using the POR15 as the base coat. Also has anyone just used the POR15 alone. What about the Hardnose? It says it has issues with UV. Is there a better product to use? I want the Bling effect. Also has anyone used the Por15 Epoxy Putty or body filler?
Thanks

Yes you can, I have used it on my hitch and the floor pan in the inside of my car. The hitch sees a good deal of sunlight and has never had a problem (been on for about 1 1/2 years). The floor pan is not covered up with carpet or anything and has had it for about 3 years, no problems. I acutually tried to spraypaint over it once and I guess I didnt clean over the por15 good enough because the spraypaint didnt stick very good. Thats why I just never painted over it. Dont know what the long term effects are but Im just letting you know what I've done and how it has held up. Where gloves and dont get it all over (it sucks getting off) also I used big syringes (sp?) for medicine to suck it up and brushed it on. It went a lot further that way. Good luck

I researched several products and POR15 was one of them. I decided on a product called Rust Seal by KBS. This stuff is awesome. I have done my rear skid, gas tank and rear diff so far and they look like they were dipped. Prep is the main step with any product, I hit everything with a wire knot wheel. The KBS and Por 15 will change colors when exposed to uv light so a top coat of paint is a good idea. I am doing everything underneath in the stuff, I don't want to do this again. I highly recommend the KBS stuff and it is cheaper the POR. Don't use the bedliner stuff on the frame because it will be almost impossible to find a crack. PM me with any ??

My old buggy was painted in por15 from nose to tail, axles, etc. Anything in contact with the sun will fade. After the summer, my upper cage was no longer black is was a dark smoke color. The paint on the axle and everything underneath held up great.

black paint, flat or gloss at lowes, you pick the color
$.96 a can.

I just painted mine with rustoleum primer and gloss black. Bought it by the pint, thinned it down, and sprayed it. No clue how well it will hold up since I need to put the body back on it. If it scraps some I can get touch up paint at almost any store that sells it. It looks incredible, but any paint will look good when it is first done.

POR15 dont stick to prep-d surfaces. Its main function is a rust sealer/preventative and the surface rust creates the bond.

You must have never used the POR 15 product before!
Quote from their own website:

"Surface preparation and repair are the most important prerequisites for durability and protection of any coating system"

Common sense tells you that if you apply a coating to a metal surface that is caked with several years of road grime, the adhesion is only as good as the grip the road grime has on the metal, once it comes loose the POR15 goes with it. Proper prep involves taking a wire knot brush to all metal surfaces to remove any loose rust and road grime, followed by the degreaser agent, etching liquid, and the the POR15.
If you want to apply POR15 with no surface prep that is your choice but don't recommend the practice to others because it is contrary to what POR15 states.
I myself decided to go with the coating from KBS. My research showed it to be a superior product from those who use these products on a daily basis. It is basically the same process as the POR15 and I can tell you surface prep is very critical. If you do it right the coating is awesome. It looks like my parts were dipped.
PM me with any ??
