Right now i have a 2003 TJ I6 30/44 axle set up with 3.73 gears. Nv3550 transmission, 4" lift. i want to run 35" tires. i know i need a 1.25" or 2" body to flex the 35's. but the gearing sucks off road. i was thinking of getting a D44 out of a wagoner, and a dana 300 (and upgrading it to a 4:1). since they are both pass side drop. Then possibly a box4rocks(7:1) bolted up after the dana 300 and gearing the axles to something like 4.56 or 4.88, and getting a mini spool with lock out hubs on the front. i know the d44 would need brackets welded, but would the t-case bolt up to my transmission? would all of that fit under a TJ? appreciate the help, and sorry about the length of this post.

I'm sure people do it, but the rear driveshaft is already short under a TJ, so putting another box behind the t-case will make it really short. You'll probably end up with a lot of driveline angle issues.

i was told the dana 300 is 8" shorter than the np231 so if the box4 rock is 8" or shorter then i might not be too bad.

Yeah, the 231-300 doubler is roughly the same length as just the 231 itself, since you drop the rear half of the 231 and tha tlong output.

One more thing to think about is, are you talking just swapping the front axle to a waggy 44?? this will leave you with a different lug pattern front and rear, not that it is unfixable, just something to condsider.

and yes, the 300 would bolt up to your transmission, but i would look into a clocking ring.

and in my opinion, ditch the mini spool idea, and spend just a little more for a lockrite.

arent the waggy axles 6 on 5.5?? did they come boths ways or am i just crazy?

I run 5x4.5 on front, and 5x5.5 on rear, but it works out, since rear axle is narrower, i have adapters which space it out to equal length and fix the bolt pattern.

just get some portals....strong, geared, and plenty of clearance. :)

The waggy axles are 6 lug but with some playing around with ford parts can be changed to a 5x5.5 lug pattern.

dana 44s can be switched to 5x4.5 using stock parts, but it is hard to find, and kinda weak.... 5on5.5 is alot easier...

you could swap in a HP30 front which would probly be cheaper and easier if you are only wanting to run 35s....

the box4rocks doubler gives you 7:1 overall including the d300 case, and might be a lil long with stock TJ wb, but you could do a stretch if you wanted.... and as said go with the lockright up front

IDK man, everyone I know thats tried to run 35's locked on a front dana 30 just keeps breaking em . . .

I highly suggest not running the two piece lug adapters, Was going down the beltline in Raleigh bout 70 mph in the middle lane surrounded by traffic when my front left tire decided to take a walk on me cause the two piece adapter randomly failed . . . only by the grace of God Did I not hit anyone and my tire that went on down the road so far I almost couldn't see it not hit anyone either :shaking:

To solve the two different lug pattern issue you could slap a waggy 44 in the back too, more work i know, but at least it'd match

but If you were swapping in new front and rear axles anyway then there's no way I'd waste my time with waggy 44's personally, I'd at least do 44 8 lug front 14 bolt rear if not strait one tons but allot of people will flip out that I suggested going to fullwidths

stupid loosers with there "coil" springs and there "jeeps" :flipoff2:

i had an aussie in the front of my 90 yj, and kept blowing shafts with 36's and the stroker, but i took the aussie back out, now i can at least wheel a little bit w/o destoying the shafts....but mine are chromos. and I am doing 1 tons in about a month, so if you want a yj d30 with chromos, keep an eye open for it for same in about a month

full width!!! what?!?!? that's unheard of, dare i say insane!
omg, you can never do that with a tj, it doesn't work bc they have coils!!!!! :flipoff2:
