Went to put my jeep on craigslist and it asked me to create an account with my email and then it wanted a phone number to match with the account that they would call to varify? Is this normal? Seems shady? Any input?

Yep, it's real. The call is just an automated call, comes a couple of minutes after you register. i ran into this on the Raleigh CL maybe about a year ago. they started it in certain categories, for certain markets, supposed to eventually cover any post in any city.

Makes it difficult if you want to post an ad in another area. For example, you are selling a saltwater boat, better to list it on Wilmington CL than Asheville.

Now, if they'd just stop the scammers from being able to read CL and reply to ads.

Happened to me after I made a bunch of grudge listings. I always thought it was because I made so many listings in such a short time or something, maybe the timing was purely coincidental, but I never created an account.

Ive listed two vehicles on CL in the last year (a boat and a jeep) and havent had to do that yet. Is it value-based? (The stuff I was listing was pretty cheap)

I had to do it once, a few months ago, I am always selling things on CL and have only had to do it the once, have had no issues with them, even seems they have cut down on the spam emails that or suddenly hotmail is doing its job lol.

No it isn't value based. It makes you register when you first click to post something is whatever section. Say you click post in Furniture, it immediately tells you you need an account...I haven't used CL since.
