Power Steering box rebuilds

Spring service use to do them, not sure if they still do or not. They are at the corner of statesville road and sunset

I bought mine from NAPA, but probably the same sold at any store. With exchange, I doubt a Professional Shop, would do it for any less. Probably More! Mine first replacement, did go bad, but was still under warrenty. So far, the second box has been fine.

I bought a rebuild with a lifetime warranty from Advance. Just keep the receipt. They don't have a nationwide database like Autozone.

Looks like a PITA.

I've done them. They actually ain't that bad. Worst part is the big bearing can get elongated and you have to have a very good blind hole puller to get it out. I spent $300 for a good set and rebuilt 3 of them while I was on a role. This was 16-18 years ago and I have never had that tool back out of the box.
The consensus back then was that you can get by just doing the top and bottom seal as long as it still works and you're just trying to fix the leaks. Some vehicles you can do it on the vehicle but I suggest doing it on the bench.

Thanks for the help guys. The part stores are kinda out they don't actually carry the steering box to old. I heard there was a guy in concord that did a lot of the saginaw box's for race teams, but haven't found his number.

I rebuilt my hydro assist box and will never do it again. My box has these recirculating ball bearings in them that are a PITA to say the least. I'd love to find a shop that would rebuild mine when it is needed.

I just goggled 68 Bronco PS box, & got a page full of interesting sites, including "Classic Broncos" Forum.

Exactly if you're looking to rebuild one for your EB? There's a lot of u-tube on rebuilding these now days as well. Unlike there was 16-18 years ago when I did mine. Thank god for good friends back then though for advise... The kits had some sort of vague directions as well.

If I remember right you just had to load the ball bearings back in while you screwed the big thingamajigger in. I don't recall much pain in them? Had one I rebuilt that lasted in a mud race truck before I parted it out. So if I can do it anybody could. I had PS box rebuilds down to half a day.

Seems even advanced auto carried rebuilt boxes with a hefty core charge. At least they used to. I contemplated buying rebuilt ones before I just bought the $25 kits.
