so I went out earlier in the year and basically raped my steering system by running at redline for quite some time and boiled my fluid. its a CJ with GM pump and J2000 box. simply got hot and boiled. so the pump went bad. replaced pump. still loud. replaced pump. still loud. so now what? did I cook something in the gear?

or am I just dumb and didnt bleed / install correctly?

now Im running a small cooler, stock chevy remote res just above pump . generic PS fluid

both are reman NAPA pumps

Is the noise a loud squeal or something else? Does it change with movement or rpm?

Normally pump noise is caused by cavitation. That could be caused by the suction hose collapsing or blocked, or air in the system that needs to be bled out.

loud at idle rev any above idle goes away smooth and quiet

Reman pumps suck! I went through 3 reman and 2 new ones on one truck. Doesn't matter brand. First several leaked in the first week or lost pressure. SMH. Don't they make any thing quality any more?

If the cooler was in there prior to failure of the original, flush it and the gear. Recirculated debris causes repeat failures. And add one of the magnetic filters they sell in the return line, they work.

I've had 1 steering box & 1 pump. Both re-maned. Box was from Advance, & lasted 3-4 months. Second box has been good. Pump has been good, but looking at various sites selling the pump, NAPA, Advance, Autozone, they all list the same pump & use the same picture! The pictured pump, had a dented reservoir, & it was on all 3 websites! Same re-builder, just shop for best price.
