Power Steering Resi Mounting

Never having done this and only having a minor in keyboard warrior knowledge, I'm looking for some opinions on where to mount my power steering resi. Have 3 options that make sense. Rig is a TJ with douche fenders(Metal Cloak's) so there's plenty of flat surface to mount to.

Option 1: doesn't really require me to move anything.

Option 2: will more than likely have to ditch the washer fluid resi

Option 3: will have to relocate the coolant overflow. However it's the shortest run to the pump.

I need a resi like that in my jeep. Where did you get it?

Must be nice to have so many options . My vote is for #2 since it looks like it's in line with the inlet.

Next question is that a factory pump? Looks like it is. How do you attach the line? Only factory pump I know of with the remote resi is the 2.5 ones from the early 80's Jeeps.

All 2.5 TJ are remove reservoir. Grab some AN fittings and rock out.
A PSC pump is a worthwhile upgrade BTW.

I have an 87 MJ out back with a remote resi factory pump. I also just happen to have a PSC I acquired with a motor recently. I hear they require special fluid... All the resi's I've seen were above $100 and I'm a cheap as broke xj jeeper...

It's a 4.0 TJ factory pump, I've got a 1/2" NPT to -10 JIC/AN for the pump. I also have the PSC fitting for the pump to convert the outlet to -6 JIC. I'm still up in the air one if I'm gonna tap the inlet or just turn the fitting so it's a press fit with some bearing retaining compound/o-ring. I'll post up what I end up doing, really need to start a build thread for this thing.

YJ pumps are also remote resi, I've got two of them on the shelf I may disassembly and mod later.

I'll eventually upgrade to a PSC or TG pump but didn't feel it was necessary at this time.

If by "special fluid" you mean the O'Reily Auto PS gallon jug I use in my Ranger, then yeah, that special fluid.

Ah I was told they required Swepco. that shit is pricey... So I learned two things today....

Interesting... I've run Dex/Merc ATF in my Saginaw (canned ham) pump for the past 15 years, since I already carry it for the TH-400

I've ran ATF, PS, hydraulic fluid, Dex, Merc, whatever I had in the tool box before. All with acceptable results.
I think on many of our applications (close tolerance full hydro systems aside) any quality transmission PS/hydro fluid will suffice.

I have ran ATF before with no issues, but was told that it will get hot and foam up unlike PS fluid. Doesn’t make since because it also gets hot if not hotter in a transmission.

All of which shouldn’t be an issue with a properly sized cooler.

When the RS chassis Chrysler minivans came out in like 2006 or so, we had to flush out the factory filled PS fluid for AFT+4 to quiet them down.
Quite a few Chrysler power steering systems called for ATF as opposed to PS fluid.

@ghost

Shoved a plug in the intake port to keep shaving and other shit out, tap drilled (23/32") till it was as deep as the next step. Cleaned it out with a magnet and some cutting oil after drilling. Then tapped it with a 1/2" NPT Tap, grease on the tap helped to keep it fairly clean.
